The emergence of state legislation aiming to restrict Critical Race Theory curriculum stands as a looming concern for the TYA field in its potential to impede school engagement with programming that addresses race and systemic racism. Building from their webinars in 2020’s Listen, Learn, Lead: Antiracism in TYA series, Takiema Bunche Smith and Jody Drezner Alperin return to illuminate the basics of what CRT is; cover the legislation being proposed; and provide talking points tailored to TYA organizations in discussion with schools.
