A Tale of Two Cities
Alliance Theatre - Atlanta, GA
BY CHARLES DICKENS
ADAPTED BY BRENDAN PELSUE
DIRECTED BY LEORA MORRISWorld Premiere
BEST ENJOYED BY AUDIENCES 13+It’s the best of times and the worst of times. The rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. The oppressed call for revolution. Despots threaten global war. Sound familiar? It’s Paris and London, 1787, a powder keg of spies, lovers, madmen, and unexpected look-alikes. This radical reimagining of Charles Dickens’s classic tale of the French Revolution forces us to ask: am I who I am because of my actions or the circumstances of my birth? Do I control my destiny? And where do we begin if we want to right the wrongs of history?

Super Aunty (TYA BIPOC Superhero Project)
Honolulu Theatre for Youth - Honolulu, HI
By Lee Cataluna
Music and Lyrics by Sean Joseph ChooWhat makes a superhero? Is it incredible strength? The ability to see through walls or hear a whisper a mile away? Or is it something more human, like the desire to be of service and the commitment to stick around? Three friends in a Hawai‘i schoolyard go through a challenging day, and at each turn, they are rescued by a woman of great strength, dexterity, compassion and wit. In Hawaii, the term “Aunty” is used both to mean a female relative and more generally, it is a term of respect for any woman who takes care of her community. The three children come to realize that the women in their lives are the strongest, fastest, bravest people they know, and that real heroes don’t leave after the crisis is over. They stick around and make lunch.

Navigating Staff Transitions
Changing expectations around staff positions and greatly increased turnover have become a reality in many of our organizations. This is requiring us not only to spend more time hiring, but to consider what fundamental ideas we need to shift as an ecosystem. In this presentation and discussion, we’ll focus on two:
– Everyone will leave eventually, and that’s OK!
– Emphasizing short term productivity over humanity does not help you!
Through exploring a rethink on these two ideas, we will go over a Staff Transition Roadmap that gives sixteen actionable steps (eight in-advance of a departure and eight in-the-moment) that can value the human beings in your organization and provide peace and stability in a tumultuous time for living.
