TYA Board of Directors

We are currently seeking candidates to join our Board of Directors. Our board is comprised of a variety of professionals, administrators, artists, and educators from across the country dedicated to advancing the TYA field. The TYA/USA Board is responsible for supporting the vision, operations and financial stability of the organization.

Board members are asked to attend 1 in-person meeting a year at the National Festival & Conference (Post-COVID), and an additional 2-3 meetings virtually; serve on at least one committee; participate in additional calls and/or e-mail communications as needed; and make and/or fundraise for a financial contribution to the organization.

TYA/USA serves the national field of Theatre for Young Audiences, and we strive to build a board that reflects the diversity of the United States as well as the global society in which we live. We aim to represent the range of the national field on our board, and we encourage individuals in all TYA roles to serve on our board (artists, administrators, educators, and advocates). We strongly encourage candidates from communities that have been historically underrepresented in the TYA field to apply.

This year, based on the makeup of our current board, we are particularly interested in candidates with the following areas of experience:

  • Development / Sponsorship
  • Human Resources/General Non-Profit Management
  • Current or Past Board Members of TYA Theatres
  • Disability/Accessibility Advocacy
  • Broadway/Commercial Theatre Producing
  • Employment Law/Non-Profit Law
  • Script Publishing & Licensing
  • Rights & Content Acquisitions Film/TV/Streaming Services/Books

Interest Submission Instructions

Submit Interest HERE

Please submit an application that speaks to what excites you about joining the TYA/USA Board, as well as your approach to equity, diversity, and inclusion and/or antiracism work. EDI and antiracism are an important part of TYA/USA’s mission, and we ask you to share the ways that you imagine bringing a commitment to these areas in your work. We invite applicants to submit their statement via a written statement, audio or video recording – whatever form best supports your self-expression.

Deadline March 17, 2021

Candidates will be contacted by the Board Recruitment Task Force for follow up conversations and interviews. Due to the volume of submissions, we will not be able to offer every candidate an interview. If we are unable to advance your application, we hope to find other ways for you to get involved with the work of TYA/USA, through affinity groups or committees. While we will not be able to nominate all individuals submitted, we aim to create a slate of excellent candidates prepared for a vote of the full membership by mid-April 2021.
