Childsplay, Arizona’s professional theatre for young audiences, is seeking a Technical Director to join the staff as a full-time employee. We produce 6 productions on the mainstage, 1 to 2 national tours, and 1 to 2 local state tours per year.
Reports to: Production Manager
Hours: Full-time (May work nights, weekends, and Holidays as needed)
Job Summary and Responsibilities: The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for scenic and other technical aspects of productions produced by Childsplay at the Herberger Theater Center and for tour. Working within the established policies and procedures of the organization, with the assistance of a Master Carpenter and overhires and with oversight by the Production Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to: scenic construction/remount for each production per season, assist other designers/departments as needed; establish and implement a weekly schedule to maintain the scene shop and theatre technical equipment; provide general support of the overall production quality of each show, and assist in general maintenance of the shop. The TD will also provide assistance when needed for technical set-ups on the property for special events. The TD will attend weekly staff meetings.
Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in scenic construction, working knowledge of Vectorworks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have experience in steel/aluminum MIG welding and theatrical rigging.
- Ability to effectively lead a Master Carpenter and any overhires, as well as crews for load in and strikes.
- Ability to recruit, train, and retain overhires.
- Ability to multi-task and have strong organizational skills.
- Ability to adhere to schedules and meet all production deadlines.
Salary: $33,800 + benefits
