Position Summary
StageOne Family Theatre seeks an experienced and collaborative Technical Director to oversee all aspects of scenic production for the organization. The Technical Director is responsible for the planning, construction, procurement, maintenance, organization, and budgeting of the scenic elements while supporting a positive, safe, and efficient production environment. This position works closely with designers, directors, production staff, and over-hire personnel to ensure the set meets the artistic vision while remaining on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities
Scenic Production

• Build, alter, procure, and oversee the construction of scenic elements for all StageOne productions.
• Maintain, repair, clean, and restock scenic inventory.
• Assist with design assessments and provide construction recommendations prior to final artistic approval.
• Project and track scenic material and labor needs throughout each production process.
• Manage shop purchases and maintain accurate purchasing reports.
• Attend production meetings and collaborate with artistic and production staff throughout the production process.

Shop Management

• Organize and maintain the shop to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive workspace.
• Develop work schedules and supervise over-hire staff.
• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and communicative team environment.
• Maintain inventory, supplies, tools, and equipment.

Production Support

• Provide maintenance information to run crew before each production.
• Ensure scenic elements comply with production safety standards and best practices.
• Perform repairs as needed during rehearsals and performances.
• Attend technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, preview performances, opening performances, and production note sessions.
• Lead load-in, strike, and other production needs as assigned.
• Help maintain clean and organized shared production spaces.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Associate Artistic Director or Production Stage Manager.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in technical theatre management or production.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of stagecraft, carpentry, and rigging.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and design plans.
• Excellent organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
• Proficiency in CAD software, and production scheduling tools preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.

Working Conditions

• Evening and weekend work required during production periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights (ladders, catwalks).
• Combination of shop, stage, and office environments.

Schedule
This is a full-time position with regular weekday hours. Theatre production schedules occasionally require evening and weekend work during rehearsal, technical rehearsal, production, and special events.
