Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of property design, procurement, and construction for all Rose Theater productions; including but not limited to, the main stage season, education/youth productions and metro tours. Manage and oversee all prop rentals, including pick up/drop off coordination.

Essential Job Duties

  • Generate props list for all main stage/Hitchcock productions. Provide research as needed.
  • Execute the design, build, procurement, etc. of all props for main stage, Hitchcock, and youth/education programs.
  • Develop and follow build schedules and meet deadlines pertaining to the properties department.
  • Facilitate any in-house prop loans as necessary.
  • Assist with scenery construction when assigned to do so by the Technical Director.
  • Attend all technical and dress rehearsals as assigned by Production Director.
  • Assist with all load-in and strikes assigned by the Technical Director.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace.
  • In cooperation with the Technical Director, perform maintenance and upkeep of shop tools and equipment.
  • In cooperation with the Technical Director, ensure the safety of actors, crew and audience members regarding scenery, props, special effects, and backstage spaces.
  • Work closely with the Production Director to develop and monitor the annual budget.
  • Work flexible schedule depending on production needs.
  • Assist with supervision of apprentices, part-time staff and volunteers.

Other Job Duties

  • Assist shop staff in cleaning, inventory, storage, and organization of the entire building. Specifically maintain inventory records and storage of props.
  • Manage prop rental including contracts and invoices, providing information to the finance department.
  • Participate in recruiting and training technical apprentices.
  • Attend all necessary meetings, including production and monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Participate in company events/activities as required.
  • Work flexible schedule depending on responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Director.

Education, Training and Experience
B.A or B.F.A. in Technical Theater or equivalent experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess strong working knowledge of various materials and techniques used in creating properties for stage productions.
  • Must be able to manage a system to inventory, organize, maintain and store a large stock of properties.
  • Working knowledge of basic theatrical rigging.
  • Ability to operate double purchase fly system.
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and assignments to meet all deadlines.
    Ability to meet all deadlines under pressure situations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to follow directions from directors and Technical Director.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Always act as a representative of the company, providing excellent customer service to members, patrons, vendors and staff.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work at heights of up to 70’.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Ability to drive full size pickup and straight box trucks.
  • On-site attendance is required.

Position Compensation Range

  • $40,000 – $45,000
