Marketing and Community Relations Manager

Accountability: The Marketing Manager is accountable to the Artistic Director and General Manager for engaging with and deepening the experience of StageOne for our audiences and schools, creating marketing materials and opportunities, promoting ticket sales to raise awareness of StageOne and its programming in the community.

Role Within the Organization: The Marketing Manager works and shepherds the resources of other members of the staff, artists, volunteers and community partners to nurture the artistic vitality, financial stability and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities: The Marketing Manager is responsible for and/or oversees publicity, public relations and advertising for season of mainstage plays, Storytellers series, in-school residencies, touring productions, and other events by:

  • Regular, open and honest communication with the Artistic Director and General Manager regarding every aspect of marketing and promotions
  • Smooth and efficient operation of promotional and marketing campaigns
  • Management of timelines and resources to meet sales goals and promotional objectives
  • Representing the organization to the local and national artistic and TYA communities in coordination with the Artistic Director
  • Operating within legal parameters and with high ethical standards
  • In addition to common avenues of publicity, consider outside-the-box ideas and approaches to promote the history and uniqueness of StageOne‚Äôs mission to foster empathy and spark the imagination of children while removing financial, cultural or geographic barriers to quality arts experiences


  • Work in tandem with the Patron Services Manager to oversee the Community Engagement Team (in design, creation and implementation of marketing and public relations plans) to promote the visibility of StageOne as an integral part of Louisville arts
    community and meet all programmatic financial goals
  • In coordination with the General Manager, develop and maintain marketing and public relationship budget
  • Direct the development of all visual and print materials
  • Work in collaboration with the staff to support StageOne initiatives & campaigns
  • Develop and maintain media sponsorships and partnerships
  • Manage brand consistency in marketing
  • Coordinate press releases and follow up to general frequent and consistent publicity
  • Be the face of the theatre for all press, external relations and communication needs
  • Maintain an archive of press, preview articles, reviews and feature stories
  • Prepare media packets for press and host when applicable
  • Utilize Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms to activate the online community and develop new audiences
  • Manage the website
  • Collaborate closely with the communication team (Development, Education, Community Engagement teams) to implement best practices for publicity and networking opportunities
  • Attend rehearsals and performances and meet artists and staff to best understand the artistic choices behind the season and how to represent them meaningfully in press and publicity
  • Work closely with Artistic Director, General Manager and videographer on all video promotion projects
  • Must learn and understand Actors Equity and other union rules around media usage and partner with the Production and Stage Management teams to ensure all rules are followed
  • Be in respectful contact with all artists involved in the process and find ways for their voices to be represented throughout the marketing, publicity and community engagement campaign
  • In partnership with all staff members, find creative, out-of-the-box ways to engage the community past the performance or education experience

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, permanent position, as defined in Letter of Employment; subject to two (2) weeks notice by either party. Compensation is in the range of 45-50K. This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance benefits.
