NASHVILLE CHILDREN’S THEATRE (NCT), a professional theatre for young audiences celebrating its 92nd season, is seeking a friendly and skilled theatrical Head Carpenter to help build and create shows for our 2023-2024 season.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in their field(s) in order to best serve the needs of shows, assist and take lead on scenic build and special projects, assist in show and shop maintenance, assist in NCT special projects, and help the theatre continue to fulfill it’s mission in bringing professional theatre to young audiences in Middle Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the Technical Director to help build various scenic or prop elements for all productions
  • Be a self-starter, team player, leader, and ability to stay on task is a must.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds comfortably.
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights.
  • Shows skills in carpentry and woodworking; welding experience preferred but not required.
  • Able to read shop drawings created in cad software and create cut lists, assemble, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate with the TD and other team members to come up with solutions relating to scenery or props.
  • Ability to lead a team efficiently when TD is unavailable.
  • Able to follow safety protocols and work in a safe manner.
  • Assist in scenic art and/or construction of props as needed depending on skill set.
  • Work as a team player, showing mutual respect and helping out when requested.
  • Assumes other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by Director of Production or Technical Director
  • Ability to keep a consistent schedule and showing up on time is crucial.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position will report directly to the Technical Director. The position is an integral member of the team in ensuring our shows are built on time, safely, and with a professional standard in mind. A knowledge of, and passion for the performing arts, especially theatre for young audiences is helpful, but not required. Key attributes include drive, ingenuity, dedication, enthusiasm, humor, energy, and optimism.

Head Carpenter is a Full Time position with a yearly salary of $36,500 + benefits. All offers of employment are contingent on successful background screening, reference check, and Covid-19 Vaccination Confirmation.
