Full-Time Teaching Artist Position

Compensation

$2800-3000 per month plus benefits

Honolulu Theatre for Youth seeks dynamic, skilled, creative teaching artists starting the 2023-2024 season as demand for our services continues to grow. The Drama Education Department serves the community through Classroom
Workshops/Residencies, Community-based drama programs and Teacher Professional Development. The Teaching artist position, in collaboration with HTY Drama Education staff, will primarily be responsible for designing and conducting in-school residencies
across Oahu, and on occasion across the state, as well as other workshops, classes and programs on an as needed basis determined by the HTY Director of Drama Education (DODE).
As most work is done off site, teaching artists need to provide their own transportation, with gas or travel allowances provided by the company. The Teaching Artist must be enthusiastic about working with children and young people and demonstrate a commitment to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through designing tools to provide arts enrichment.

Essential Responsibilities.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Delivers quality theatre education content that meets or exceeds expectations established by DODE.
  • Collaborates with DODE regarding the evaluation of curriculum and implementation.
  • Represents HTY at promotional events as assigned.
  • Attends all teaching artists meetings and full HTY staff meetings.
  • Attends and supports classes and culminations of other teaching artists when available.
  • Leads by practicing good pedagogy and models the expectations set forth for all teaching artists.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of self-motivation and ability to collaborate and lead
  • Ability to work independently, facilitate group dynamics, exercise good judgment, and show initiative.
  • Demonstrates skills/training and professional experience in the performing arts
  • College degree or professional equivalent
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a range of ages
  • Experience in developing performing arts curriculum and lesson planning
  • On-going commitment to expanding teaching skills and for professional development, cooperative curriculum planning, reflection and feedback sessions
