Young Footliters Youth Theatre seeks Teaching Artist/Actors to perform in and direct summer camp productions through the Footliters Traveling Playhouse program.

Young Footliters Youth Theatre uses the power of storytelling to create connections, build self-confidence, and inspire creativity in young people. In our theatre community, all are welcome and encouraged to grow and to be themselves.
About Footliters Traveling Playhouse
FTP is a touring theatre performance & education program serving Coralville, Iowa City, and twenty additional communities throughout Iowa. Teams of three Teaching Artists direct and perform alongside children ages 7-18 in an hour-long musical providing a fun and rewarding week-long summer theatre camp experience for young people. Summer programs run May 28 through August 8, 2026, with the week of June 28 – July 5 off. Our week-long camps are open to students of all backgrounds, experience levels, and training.
Who We Are Seeking
Dynamic performers with a passion for teaching artistry to play multiple roles in The School for Spies, The Great Zoo Escape, and The Case of the Missing Masterpiece: touring musicals produced by Footliters Traveling Playhouse. A team of three Teaching Artists will lead week-long theatre camps for groups of approximately 40-60 children ages 7 and up. Teaching Artists should be comfortable leading rehearsals for 15-30 students at a time. Generally, teaching artists have completed at least one year of college theatre and/or music training. Teaching Artist Responsibilities include:
- Completing up to ten days of training and rehearsal
- Performing a role each week in their assigned production
- Teaching blocking, choreography, and acting technique to students with a wide range of performing experience
- Collaborating with fellow Teaching Artists to adapt blocking and choreography for a variety of stages
- Assisting with set load-in, strike, and costume distribution and collection to students
- If necessary, driving the tour vehicle between camp locations (for teaching artists with a valid drivers license)
- Completing Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training (provided during training week)

Dates and Times
First Rehearsal: Thursday, May 28, 2026
First Camp Week Monday, June 8, 2026
Final Day of Programs: Saturday, August 8, 2025
The week of June 29 – July 3 is off.
We are only able to hire teaching artists who can make a full-summer commitment to the program.
Compensation
Teaching Artists are paid hourly from for the complete work day (including travel time for camps away). Hourly rates begin at $16.70 per hour and most weeks average 30-35 hours or more. Training week camps with travel time may increase weekly hours. Local Coralville housing is not provided. When teams are on the road in overnight communities, housing is provided during the week.
Teaching Artists will spend approximately 25 hours interacting with students and should expect additional hours each week to be dedicated to show-related tasks (commuting, rehearsal set-up, etc.) Performance and camp times are generally mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
Audition Process
Footliters Traveling Playhouse welcomes prospective teaching artists to submit a video audition. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis so early application is recommended. Submissions will begin being reviewed on January 15, 2026 until all positions are filled. If you’re seeing this late, please still submit! We will update this page when all positions for Summer 2026 are full.
Submission Requirements
In your submission video, please include the following elements as a YouTube video (instructions below):
– bars each of two songs in contrasting styles
– o monologues of contrasting styles, preferably contemporary, approximately 1 minute each
– Please also share a brief story about a time you’ve worked with children and what that experience meant to you.
Submission Instructions
Submissions are due not later than March 1, 2026. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning January 15, 2026, so early submission is recommended. Please email your headshot, resume, any relevant teaching experience, and the link to your unlisted (not private) YouTube video to youngfootliters@coralville.org. Virtual callbacks and interviews will follow. Teaching Artists will be required to pass a background check prior to the first rehearsal.
