Director of Theatre
Culver Academies / Culver, IN03.22.21
Culver Academies is seeking a Director of Theatre and Instructor to join our community of learners starting in the fall of 2021. The Director of Theatre will lead a team of colleagues in the theatre and is responsible for the academic curriculum and the theatrical performances, currently three shows a year. The Director of Theatre collaborates with the Chair of Fine Arts in managing a significant performance, visiting artist, and concert series budget for performances in Eppley Auditorium. The Director of Theatre also collaborates with the Admissions and Advancement offices, serving as a key member of the Huffington Scholars Committee (scholarship dedicated to thespians) and Huffington Concert Series team. Finally, the Director supports all performances held in Eppley Auditorium in coordination with the Auditorium Director and Events Coordinator.
Like all instructors, the Director of Theatre is expected to (1) collaborate in our department meetings and with their colleagues in the theatre, (2) learn in a monthly interdisciplinary learning community, and (3) model the mission of Culver, which focuses on leadership and responsible citizenship.
Qualified candidates will hold a least bachelors in theatre, with several years teaching experience at the secondary school or college level, and have honed their own practice as a thespian. Candidates should have experience mentoring and inspiring students, particularly in but not limited to the theatre. Candidates will be knowledgeable about current theatre practices.
Professional development is available for all instructors and is born from goals set by individual teachers and goals established within the fine arts department. Opportunities include traditional off-campus workshops and conferences, graduate work, research with students or colleagues, faculty-developed curriculum projects, and regularly scheduled on-campus teacher forums for learning support, educational technology, and culture.
