REPORTS TO: Vice President, Education & Public Engagement
SUPERVISES: Education Program Associate & House Manager/s with oversight responsibility for the participants of the New 42 Youth Corps
SCHEDULE: Hybrid, with regular and ongoing evening and weekend hours
Position Summary: Director of Audience & Youth Engagement is a new position that is primarily responsible for the Front of House (FOH) experience of all theatrical spaces of the New 42, including the New Victory Theater and the Duke on 42nd Street as well as overseeing the Youth Corps programs that staff our theaters – an award-winning, rigorous creative youth development program that offers flexible paid employment, professional training and workshops, college access and success support, and access to international performing arts. This position is part of the award winning Education and Engagement team at the New Victory Theater, powered by New 42.
Primary Responsibilities
Audience Engagement / Front of House
- Supervises and supports the House Manager to manage and oversee FOH / Youth Engagement staff
- Ensure the smooth operations of school and public performances and rentals/special events
- Ensure that all patrons are treated in a kind, friendly, and accessible manner
- Work with the Director of Education & School Engagement, Education Partnership team, House Manager and Operations team to develop operation protocols for school and public performances
- Oversee House Manager to schedule FOH / Youth Engagement weekly staff schedule
- Work with the Theater Manager to ensure all events in the theater(s) are successfully planned and staffed
- Work with the Theater Manager to support all accessibility programs for patrons of the theaters
- Work with the Assistant Director of Education / Family Engagement to support all engagement programs for patrons
Youth Engagement
- Develop program initiatives to further the Youth Corps Program with Vice President of Education & Public Engagement
- Create and foster community with Youth Engagement staff and ushers in alignment with positive Youth Development principles
- Develop and supervise the implementation of employment guidelines for Youth Corps participants with Vice President, Education & Public Engagement and Director of HR and Employee Engagement and Theater Manager
- Oversee Youth Engagement staff to plan and implement an effective Youth Corps recruitment process
- Work with New 42 departments to develop opportunities for Youth Corps participants to learn new skills
- Create and oversee traditional and peer mentoring in Youth Corps
- Develop and oversee evaluation systems for the Youth Corps programs
- Maintain relationship with CUNY and college career departments
- Create and implement program participant and alumni tracking/networking
- Create and implement professional development for Youth Engagement full time staff as well as organization mentors and supervisors
- Create and maintain Youth Corps budget in collaboration with Vice President, Education & Public Engagement and Youth Engagement staff
- Oversee all financial reports to Finance Department
- Liaise with Development on Youth Corps related initiatives and funding
- Serve as a spokesperson New 42 Youth Corps program
- Oversee all outside and internal communication regarding the Youth Corps program (print, video, web, social media, etc.) with Communications team
Education Department Leadership:
- Partners with VPs, Education and Director of Education & School Engagement as leadership team to oversee the Education Department to foster a collaborative culture, healthy and productive working relationships intra/interdepartmentally; co-designs and implements Education department retreats, staff reflections, etc.
- Oversees the weekly Education Department meeting structures with Director of Education / School Engagement and supports staff to host meetings
- Works with VPs and Director of Employee Engagement and HR to set and maintain HR policies, training programs
- Work with VPs, Education to design new initiatives
Participate in organizational strategic planning and development as part of New 42’s Senior Staff - Be an active participant in ongoing organizational DEIB initiatives
Qualifications
- Experienced being a supervisor and managing teams
- Experience with youth programs and working with youth
- Experience with theaters and front of house
- Passionate about the performing arts and/or theater for young audiences
- Skill with public speaking and/or training
- Experience with college applications and college success a plus
- Experience working in a Positive Youth Development and/or workforce development a plus
- Program improvement/oversight/capacity building experience
- Degree in arts management or youth development a plus
