South Carolina Children’s Theatre (SCCT) is a growing non-profit organization with an annual budget of $1,560,000 located in Greenville, SC. For more than 35 years, SCCT has served approximately 30,000 young people and their families annually with its mission: to empower and inspire a new generation of changemakers through theatre. Programs include performances and special events, theatre classes, on-site residencies, school tours, and outreach programs for under-estimated communities. It is an exciting time to join SCCT as the organization recently completed a $14.45M capital campaign to build its own theatre complex in downtown Greenville, allowing programs and administrative staff to grow significantly.

Position overview:
The Development Director is responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive development strategy to secure funding from all sources of contributed revenue. This includes individual donors, board members, corporate sponsorships, foundations, and government funding. The ideal candidate will enter SCCT during an exciting period of momentum with a new Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership, offering a prime opportunity to re-engage past supporters, attract new donors, and shape the organization’s next chapter.
This role requires a proactive and dynamic leader with the vision and skills to grow and diversify SCCT’s funding streams while building meaningful relationships with stakeholders. The Development Director will collaborate closely with the CEO and Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives to set and achieve ambitious revenue goals across multiple funding channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Development Strategy and Execution:
- Develop, articulate, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals.
- Leverage SCCT’s existing networks and cultivate new relationships to expand the donor base and strengthen institutional support.
- Re-engage lapsed donors and identify new opportunities for funding through individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and special events.
Donor and Sponsor Relations:
- Build and nurture relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundation representatives.
- Oversee the development and execution of donor stewardship plans to enhance retention and engagement.
Support leadership and development efforts within the Board and serve as a key liaison to the Board’s Resource Development Committee
Grant Writing and Reporting:
- Oversee and support the grant-writing process, including prospect research, proposal development, and timely submission.
- Oversee reporting and compliance for grants and sponsorship agreements from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
Special Events and Campaigns:
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to plan and execute special fundraising events that support SCCT’s mission and revenue goals.
- Lead campaigns to drive individual giving, including major gifts, annual giving, and capital campaigns as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
- Partner with executive leadership to set ambitious, yet realistic fundraising goals
- Engage as an articulate, passionate, and visible storyteller and a prominent fundraising presence for SCCT
Together with the CEO and Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, create and maintain SCCT’s development department budget - Collaborate with the CEO and Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives to prepare budgets, financial reports, and financial statements for grant proposals, grant reports, and for board and leadership meetings
- Comply with all applicable regulations, statutes, and ethical and professional standards
- Contribute to an atmosphere of curiosity, collaboration, inclusivity, and joy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience
- Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from donors
- Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate donors, sponsors, and partners.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills are essential
- Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task
- Ability to confidently and calmly manage diverse groups of individuals
- Strong administrative and project management skills are preferred
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record
- Willing to learn new skills including SCCT’s database, Tessitura
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite+
- Experience in grant writing and reporting, as well as planning and executing special events.
- Ability to be able to work evenings and weekend as warranted
