Position Summary
StageOne Family Theatre seeks an experienced and collaborative Costume Manager to oversee all aspects of costume production for the organization. The Costume Manager is responsible for the planning, construction, procurement, maintenance, organization, and budgeting of costumes while supporting a positive, safe, and efficient production environment.

This position works closely with designers, directors, production staff, and over-hire personnel to ensure costumes meet the artistic vision while remaining on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities
Costume Production

• Build, alter, procure, and oversee the construction of costumes for all StageOne productions.
• Maintain, repair, clean, and restock costume inventory.
• Assist with design assessments and provide construction recommendations prior to final artistic approval.
• Project and track costume material and labor needs throughout each production process.
• Manage costume purchases and maintain accurate purchasing reports.
• Attend production meetings and collaborate with artistic and production staff throughout the production process.

Costume Shop Management

• Organize and maintain the costume shop to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive workspace.
• Develop work schedules and supervise occasional over-hire costume staff.
• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and communicative team environment.
• Maintain costume inventory, supplies, tools, and equipment.

Production Support

• Provide wardrobe maintenance information to wardrobe crew before each production.
• Ensure costumes comply with production safety standards and best practices.
• Perform major costume repairs as needed during rehearsals and performances.
• Attend technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, preview performances, opening performances, and production note sessions.
• Assist with load-in, strike, and other production needs as assigned.
• Help maintain clean and organized shared production spaces.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Associate Artistic Director or Production Stage Manager.

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:

• Three or more years of professional costume construction and costume shop management experience.
• Strong costume construction and tailoring skills.
• Knowledge of costume history, patterning, garment construction, textiles, and fabric selection.
• Experience with costume dyeing, painting, and distressing techniques.
• Experience in wig construction and maintenance.
• Demonstrated experience managing production budgets and tracking expenses.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of workplace safety practices in theatrical costume production.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.

Schedule
This is a full-time position with regular weekday hours. Theatre production schedules occasionally require evening and weekend work during rehearsal, technical rehearsal, production, and special events.
