Volunteer Job Description: Board Member, Board of Directors

Commitment: Approximately 12 hours annually

CLIMB Theatre is a touring children’s theatre that teaches positive behavior skills, environmental conservation, and arts education through theatre performances, assemblies, and classes.

CLIMB Theatre creates customized plays, classes and workshops that build empathy, manners, perseverance, ownership, well-being, equity, and regulation. Annually, CLIMB inspires more than 150,000 people to make the world a better place.

Position Overview: 
As a Board Member for CLIMB Theatre, you will help guide the strategic vision and operational decisions of the organization. Board members play an integral role in maintaining the organization’s financial health, engaging with the community, and supporting the theatre’s programs and productions.

This volunteer role is ideal for individuals passionate about youth education, theatre, and community engagement who are eager to make a meaningful impact on a small, dynamic arts organization.

Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Governance 

  • Determine and uphold the mission and purposes of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team on strategic and organizational planning.
  • Review outcomes and metrics to evaluate the organization’s impact.
  • Assist in recruiting board, committee, and volunteer members and assessing board performance.

Fiduciary Oversight 

  • Ensure strong financial management and accountability.
  • Review and understand financial statements.
  • Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Leadership Team.

Community Representation and Advocacy 

  • Serve as an ambassador for CLIMB Theatre, promoting its mission and programs.
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to enhance the organization’s reach.

Fundraising and Resource Development 

  • Actively participate in fundraising initiatives, including securing donations and grants.
  • Consider CLIMB Theatre a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts within your capacity.
  • Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments as needed.
  • Partner with the Executive Leadership Team and fellow board members to ensure board resolutions are carried out effectively.

Qualifications: 

  • This is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals passionate about youth education, theatre, and community engagement. Ideal candidates will possess:
  • A passion for youth education, the performing arts, and community engagement.
  • Willingness to dedicate time and energy to advance the mission of CLIMB Theatre.
  • Have professional or volunteer experience in fields such as education, business, nonprofit management, theatre arts, government, or philanthropy.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships and build consensus.
  • Demonstrate personal qualities of integrity and credibility, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Be eager to learn and deepen their connection to CLIMB Theatre.

Commitment: 
Attend quarterly board meetings, the annual budget meeting, and other special sessions as needed (approx. 12 hours annually).
Commit to a three-year term with possible additional terms.
