EMPLOYMENT TERM: Full Time, Salaried.  One Year, with an option for extension based on performance and continued funding of the program. Start Date between July 1, 2021 – August 1, 2021.

Director of Education

The Arts Integration Specialist leads the facilitation of social-emotional learning (SEL) arts integrated residencies in the greater Kansas City Metro. The goal of the residency program is to empower educators to incorporate arts integration strategies into their classroom through modeling lessons with students, collaborating with educators on developing their own arts integrated lessons, and providing professional development workshops on theory, technique and strategies. The Arts Integration Specialist will be a practicing artist and educator with the ability to build supportive relationships with educators and students.



  • Collaborate with Education Director on residency content and adaptations
  • Prepares and facilitate lessons
  • Researches strategies
  • Creates resources and provocations for educators
  • Builds relationships with and communicates regularly with assigned teachers, principals, and site administrators
  • Schedules assigned residencies based on layout provided by MPT and partner
  • Support Professional Development workshops in collaboration with Education Director
  • Support “In the Workshop” program as a facilitator
  • Attend MPT staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned that support the health of the organization and education department



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Artist with a specialty in theater, visual arts, or puppetry
  • Experience in Prek-2nd grade classroom as a teacher or teaching artist
  • Strong understanding of Arts Integration strategies
  • Knowledge of youth development and social emotional learning
  • Appreciation of puppetry and willingness to learn how to incorporate
  • Strong organization and administrative skills
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs
  • Access to reliable transportation as this role travels around the city



  • Advanced Degree in related field
  • 2+ years as an arts classroom teacher or teaching artists
  • Experience in conscious discipline or similar classroom management theories
  • Experience with students on the autism spectrum or willingness to learn


On Site Residency Work: 70%

Off Site Planning & Admin: 30%


Overview of an MPT Residency (3 hours at site per classroom):

Monthly 30-40 minute facilitation per classroom of SEL Arts Integrated Lesson (other 2.5 hours are comprised of the below)

  • Teacher Observations
  • Processing and Planning Meetings between Specialist and Teacher
  • Creating of Provocation Installments for Classrooms to Contribute to Creation that can later be used in creative drama work (a few through the year)
  • Resource Research or prep based on needs expressed by Teacher for their own arts integrated lessons
  • Professional Development Workshop at site (one in fall and one in spring)


  • Salary Range: $36,000-$40,000
  • Health Reimbursement Plan: $400 per month to support out of pocket expenses or purchase of insurance from exchange.
  • Simple IRA – match up to 3% of employee contribution
  • 0.25 per mile – Mileage reimbursement between locations after first 5 miles
  • 14 days Holiday Time
  • 12 days Personal/Vacation Days
