UT Austin TYA Artistic Exchange Fellowship

Experience the work of a fellow TYA artist, develop a shared understanding of excellence by seeing TYA work together, and discover something new about your own artistic practice through the UT Austin TYA Artistic Exchange Fellowship.

F​ounded in 2017, the UT Austin TYA Artistic Exchange Fellowship provides a pair of TYA artists from across the US with the opportunity to attend an international festival together, see each other’s work in action, and apply what they learn to their future work. This fellowship aims to elevate the quality of the TYA landscape by sparking creativity, generating dialogue, and enriching the practice of artists in the field. A chosen UT Austin graduate student will participate in all of the visits as an observer. The fellows include the graduate student in their dialogue, impacting the next generation of TYA practitioners through their own exchange and development.

Who:  TYA artists (*Either independent or representing a TYA/USA member organization; Applicants must be current TYA/USA members to apply), along with a chosen UT Austin student.

What:  The opportunity for TYA artists to connect with other artists in the field, see each other’s work in action, apply what they learn to their future work, and inspire the next generation of TYA artists. The fellowship aims to elevate the quality of the TYA landscape by sparking creativity, generating dialogue, and enriching the practice of artists in the field.

How It Works:  A TYA artist identifies another TYA artist working in a different location whose work they are interested in seeing in action. Both artists apply together. The awarded pair will attend the IPAY Showcase together to experience international work as a pair, travel to see each other’s produced artistic work, and utilize the experience for peer exchange (ideally, the award allows an exchange that has not been previously possible). An awarded UT Austin student will join in all of the visits as an observer and participant in conversation as opportunity for learning and professional development.

Award:  TYA/USA will award (1) pair of TYA artists up to $8,000 ($4,000 for each artist) for several trips over the course of a two-year exchange (2020/2021. Complimentary Registration for the 2020 and 2021 TYA/USA National Festival & Conference.

The UT Austin TYA Artistic Exchange Fellowship provides TYA artists and organizations the opportunity to connect with other artists in the field, see each other’s work in action, and apply what they learn to their future work. The fellowship aims to elevate the quality of the TYA landscape by sparking creativity, generating dialogue, and enriching the practice of awarded artists.
